The P2815Q is a well-built and solid performing monitor that is hampered by a 30Hz refresh rate and high input lag at its native resolution. For business apps, it works well. But for gaming and entertainment, the 60Hz option at 3840x2160 is missed. If you can live with 30Hz, this monitor represents a good value.

The Internet is already buzzing about the 30Hz max refresh rate of this display. It is true that at 3840x2160, you are capped at 30Hz, even over a DisplayPort 1.2 interface. The only explanation for this is Dell must be using a different scaler chip because every other monitor based on this part can hit 60Hz at its native pixel count.
Most of the new M+ technology was employed on 4K TV sets which led to a controversy after tests showed that the addition of a white sub pixel replacing the traditional RGB structure would reduce the resolution by around 25%. After tests done by Intertek in which the technical aspects of LG M+ TVs were analyzed and they concluded that "the addressable resolution display is 2,880 X 2,160 for each red, green, blue", in other words, the LG TVs were technically 2.8K as it became known in the controversy. Although LG Display has developed this technology for use in notebook display, outdoor and smartphones, it is more popular in the TV market due to the supposed 4K UHD marketed resolution but still being incapable of achieving true 4K UHD resolution as defined by the CTA as 3840x2160 active pixels with 8-bit per color. This negatively impacts the rendering of text, making it a bit fuzzier, which is especially noticeable when a TV is used as a PC monitor.
I have a DELL E7450 laptop connected via an HDMI cable to a DELL UP3214Q monitor (which can display 3840x2160 @ 60Hz with a DP1.2 cable) . Ubuntu 14.10 uses the 3840 X 2160 resolution just fine - although @ 30Hz (which I don't mind). No drivers required. xrandr shows:
Also, I accidentally managed to get 3840x2160 @ 30Hz as a regular resolution in Control Panel after I booted back from Ubuntu into Windows once. This trick didn't work after rebooting windows once again to install some updated. I hadn't installed anything else in Windows, or changed any settings. Before booting into Ubuntu, I had rebooted Windows several times, so I'd rule out rebooting itself as a solution. Could Ubuntu have written some information to the graphics card or the monitor?
The Intel HD Graphics 4000 drivers for Windows allow the creation of custom resolutions. (I know, why on earth would it not recognize the 4k standard like Linux does!?)Anyhow, on this dialog box create a 3840 x 2160 pixel resolution at 24Hz AND(!!) Select CVT-RB as the Timing Standard.It should ask you to confirm, then close that app. Next time you plug in the monitor (it does have to be rediscovered by Windows) and open up the Windows Display Settings dialog box, pick the 4k monitor, in resolution, you will have the option to pick 3840x2160 - it should even have the tag 'Recommended'. 041b061a72
